PRO-OXINE® Horticulture 5% Concentrate

PRO-OXINE® Horticulture is a concentrated horticulture antimicrobial used in water-treatment, sanitation and biofilm-control programs. When activated, the product generates chlorine dioxide.

HLVd third-party qPCR evaluation

A third-party evaluation prepared by Nathan T. Johnson, Ph.D. tested PRO-OXINE® Horticulture against Hop Latent Viroid (HLVd) using qPCR. HLVd-containing cannabis material was exposed to 250, 500, 1,000 and 2,000 ppm solutions for 10 minutes. The report states that the 250 ppm condition produced a 5-log reduction in detectable HLVd RNA under the study conditions, comparable to the 20% bleach benchmark used in that test.

Important: qPCR reduction is not the same as a direct infectivity or commercial-field trial, and the study does not replace product-label directions or regulatory authorization. Use only according to the current label and applicable requirements in your jurisdiction.

Commercial applications

  • Irrigation-water treatment and system sanitation where permitted by the current label
  • Biofilm-control programs
  • Hard, non-porous surface and equipment sanitation where permitted
  • Manual or automated dosing/activation systems

Kemin identifies PRO-OXINE® Horticulture as U.S. EPA-registered (EPA Reg. No. 9804-9). Product labeling and permitted claims can differ by geography; confirm the current label and regulatory status for the country and intended use before application.

Product guide

What you need to know before you choose.

A practical summary of what the product is, where it fits and what to confirm before use.

What it is

A concentrated chlorine-dioxide horticulture product used as part of sanitation and water-management programs. Growhaus sells the 5% concentrate in commercial pail and drum formats.

Problem it solves

Helps facilities address microbial and biofilm contamination in sanitation and irrigation workflows. A third-party qPCR evaluation also examined its ability to reduce detectable Hop Latent Viroid (HLVd) RNA under controlled test conditions.

Who it’s for

Commercial cultivation facilities building documented biosecurity, hard-surface sanitation or irrigation-water treatment programs where the current product label permits the intended use.

Materials & compatibility

Intended for horticulture applications including irrigation systems and hard surfaces as directed by the manufacturer. Confirm compatibility with metals, plastics, elastomers, equipment and crop-contact situations before use.

How it is used

Use only according to the current manufacturer label, activation procedure, concentration, application method and contact time. Measure concentration with appropriate test methods. Do not assume that a stronger concentration is more effective.

Sizes & formats

18.9 L pail and 205 L drum of 5% concentrate. Activator, injection systems and concentration-testing accessories are sold separately.

Commercial applications

Facility biosecurity programs, irrigation-system sanitation, biofilm management and hard-surface sanitation where allowed by the current label and local regulations.

Limitations & cautions

The HLVd evidence on this page comes from a third-party qPCR study under specific laboratory conditions; qPCR reduction is not the same as a direct infectivity or commercial-field trial. The study does not replace regulatory authorization or label directions. In Canada, confirm the current permitted use and applicable Health Canada requirements before making or relying on pest-control claims.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Was PRO-OXINE tested against HLVd?
A: Yes. A third-party qPCR evaluation exposed HLVd-containing cannabis material to several concentrations for 10 minutes and reported substantial reductions in detectable HLVd RNA, including a 5-log reduction at 250 ppm under the study conditions.

Q: Does that mean it is approved for every HLVd use?
A: No. Study results do not replace the current product label or regulatory authorization. Confirm the permitted use in your jurisdiction.

Q: Should I clean before disinfecting?
A: Yes. Remove visible organic matter, plant sap, resin and other soils before the disinfection step unless the current label specifically directs otherwise.
