How to Choose a Nutrient Dosing and Injection System for Commercial Cannabis

A dosing system should make the nutrient program more repeatable, not more complicated. The right design starts with required flow, number of stock solutions, target accuracy and how the system will be serviced during production.

Define peak irrigation flow

Calculate the maximum simultaneous flow the facility needs, not just the average daily water use. Zone size, emitter count and irrigation scheduling determine the required capacity.

Count independent stock solutions

Separate concentrates may need dedicated channels because incompatible salts can precipitate when mixed at high concentration. Map the nutrient recipe before choosing the number of injectors.

Understand injection ratio

The stock concentration and injector ratio must combine to produce the intended final feed. Verify that the system can cover the full operating range of the nutrient program.

Account for water pressure and variation

Pressure, flow changes and source-water conditions can affect dosing performance. Confirm the manufacturer's operating window and install the required filtration and pressure control.

Plan for calibration and maintenance

Build in a procedure for checking injector accuracy, cleaning strainers, replacing wear parts and verifying final EC/pH. A system that cannot be serviced quickly can become a production bottleneck.

Design redundancy for critical crops

For facilities where an injector failure can threaten a large crop, consider spare parts, bypass options or backup equipment as part of the capital plan.
